Today's United Kingdom was established before 300 years. The Kingdome of Scotland and the kingdom of England had existed as separate states with their own monarchs and political structures since the 9th century. In 1284, the independent Principality of Wales fell under the control of English monarchs, so it became a part of the kingdom of England by the Laws in Wales Act 1535. According to the Act of Union 1707, the independent states of England and Scotland, having been in personal union since 1603, agreed to a political union as the kingdom of Great Britain.

The kingdom of Great Britain was joined with the kingdom of Ireland by the Act of Union 1800, and under the English control, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland established. Independence for the Republic of Ireland in 1922 brought the partition of the island of Ireland, with 6 of the 9 counties of the province of Ulster remaining within the UK, which then changed to the current name in 1927.

The UK is a highly developed country of the 19th century. It has a highly industrialized economy. So it is called that the UK is a nation who "created the modern world."
