Liechtenstein is a small, doubly landlocked country, which is situated in Central Europe. It is surrounded by Switzerland to the west, and Austria to the east Together with Uzbekistan, Liechtenstein is one of the world's two landlocked countries to be surrounded by other landlocked countries. It is the smallest German-speaking country in the world. Vaduz is the capital of the country.

The territory of Liechtenstein established at one time part of the ancient Roman province of Raetia.
The Liechtenstein dynasty, from which the Principality takes its name, comes from Castle Liechtenstein in faraway lower Austria, which the family possessed from 1140 to the 13th century and from 1807 onwards. Through the centuries, the dynasty acquired vast swathes of land mainly in Morvia Lower Austria, Silesia and Styria though in all eases, these areas were held in fief under other more senior feudal lords, particularly under various lines of the Habsburg family, to whom some Liechtenstein princes served as close advisors.
The family yearned greatly for the added power which a seat in the Imperial government would garner and therefore searched for lands to acquire which would be unmitthelbar or held without any feudal parsonage other than the Holy Roman Emperor himself having rights on the land. After some time the family was able to do arrangement of purchasing Lordship of Schulenburg and count ship of Vaduz from The Hohenems.
On 23rd of January, 1719 Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor decreed Vaduz and Schulenburg were united, and raised to the dignity of principality with the name "Liechtenstein in honor of his true servant, Anton Florien of Liechtenstein". On this day, Liechtenstein became a sovereign member state of the Holy Roman Empire.
In 1806, Nopolean I of the first French Empire Due to this event invaded the Holy Roman Empire, there were many consequences occurred in Liechtenstein. Imperial legal and political mechanisms broke down, and the Empire was dissolved. From 25th of July 1806, the Confederation of the Rhine was founded and the prince of Liechtenstein was a member.
After the dissolution of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, Liechtenstein joined the German Confederation.
Until the end of the First World War, Liechtenstein was closely tied first to the Austrian Empire and then to Austria - Hungary. While at the time of the Second World War, Liechtenstein remained neutral and family treasures within the war zone were brought to Liechtenstein for safekeeping.
Education: - Education is free Liechtenstein schooling is compulsory for 8 years and begins when children reach at 7 years of age. Liechtenstein has many institutions, which provide education of art, music, philosophy and technology. There is no university in the country, so students who want to take further education of university, have to admit in Austrian or Switzerland's universities.
Entertainment: - Al Walser is Liechtenstein's first and only worldwide Entertainment export. It is also known as "The voice of the Principality of Liechtenstein". Radio Liechtenstein.
Sports: - Liechtenstein football teams play in the Swiss football leagues. The Liechtenstein Cup allows to one Liechtenstein team each year in the UEFA Cup. FC Vaduz is a very successful team in the Cup, who achieved highest scores in the European Cup Winners Cup in 1996. The Liechtenstein national football team has traditionally been regarded as an easy target for any team drawn against them, however they have been steadily improving over the last few years and now known as the best of the European "minnows."
Location: - Liechtenstein is located in the upper Rhine valley of the European Alps. It is surrounded by Switzerland to the west and by Austria to the east.
Area: - The total area of Liechtenstein is about 160 sq. km. Measured north to south; the country is only about 15 miles long.
Population: - According to the 2006 estimate, the total population of Liechtenstein is about 33,987 and its population density is about 210 persons per sq. km.
Mountains: - In its east, Liechtenstein rises to higher altitudes its highest point, of the Grauspitz, which is about 2,599 meters high. In winter, the mountain slopes are well suited to winter sports.
Climate: - The climate of Liechtenstein is mild.
Capital: - Vaduz is the capital of Liechtenstein.

Liechtenstein has well-developed highly industrialized, free enterprise economy. The living standard of the country is very high. The other plus point of the country is that, the country has very low rate, its maximum tax rate is 18%. Liechtenstein has shown strong determination to dispel the country's unhelpful image as a center for international money laundering.
Currency: - Liechtenstein participates in a customs union with Switzerland and employs the Swiss franc as national currency.
Imports: - The country imports more than 90% of its energy requirements.
Membership: - Liechtenstein is a member of the European Economic Area since from May 1995.

Transportation: - There are about 250 km. of paved roadway within Liechtenstein and 9.5 km of railway. The Austrian federal Railways administrate Liechtenstein railway department. There are four railway stations in Liechtenstein, which are Schaan-Vaduz, Forst Hilti, Nendeln and Schaanwald. Liechtenstein Bus is a subsidiary of the Swiss Postbus system and connects to the Swiss but network at Buchs SG and at Sargans as well as the Austrian city of Felkirch.
International company: - The most recognizable international company and largest employer is Hilti, which is a manufacturer of concrete fastening systems. Moreover it is also a manufacturer of the Curta calculator.
Population: - According to the 2006 estimate, the total population of Liechtenstein is about 33,987 and its population density is about 210 persons per sq. km. Liechtenstein is overwhelmingly rural, with about 79% of the total population living in the rural areas. Its population is mainly ethnic Alemannic, though its resident population is approximately 1/3 foreign-born, primarily Germans from the Federal Republic of Germany, Austria and the Swiss Confederation, other Swiss, Italians and Turks, while 2/3 of the population are Foreigners.
Religion: - Approximately 76% of the total population is Roman Catholic, 7% are Protestant, while the remaining 17% are agnostic, atheist or belonging to one of the country's minority religions like Islam, Hinduism and Judaism.
German is the official language of Liechtenstein, but a dialect of German called Alamannic is commonly spoken. Walser, a Germanic language from Switzerland is the mother tongue for a small community in Liechtenstein.
