Italy, an independent country, which is situated in Southern Europe. It is surrounded by Italian peninsula, the Po River Valley and two large islands Sicily and Sardinia in Mediterranean Sea. The Apennine mountains from the backbone of Italian peninsula, leading north-west to where they join the Alps, the mountain range that then forms an arc enclosing Italy from the north, So its northern alpine boundary is linked with France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia.
Italy had seen so many migrations and invasions from different peoples, like Germanic, Celtic, Frankish, Byzantine Greek, Saracen, Norman and the French Angevin and Lombard peoples.
Italy is naturally beautiful country so it is called 'bel paese'. Italy has not only natural beauty but also variety in landscape and it has world's largest artistic patrimony.
Modern Italy became a nation-state. Now it is well-developed country. Today, it is a member of G8 and founding member of European Union.
People of Italy are called as Italians. The word 'Italian' derived from the Greek word 'italos' which means bull.

The history of Italy witnessed many migrations and invasions, from different peoples. Italy was home to many famous civilizations like the Sardinians, the Etruscans, Greek and the Romans. Moreover Italy was dominated by Roman Empire for many centuries.
But at last Italy got rid from all such problems. On 17th March, 1861 Italy became a nation-state. Count Camillo Benso di cavour, the Chief Minister of Victor Emmanuel and Giuseppe Gariboldi were the architects of Italian Unification. Rome became part of the kingdom of Italy and became the capital of Italy.

Italian culture is more varied.
Name: - Italy's inhabitants are called 'Italians'. The word 'Italian' is derived from the ancient Greek word 'italos', which means bull.
Sports: - Italy's popular sports are football, rugby, basketball, skiing, archery, car racing and skating. Italy had successfully taken part in the Olympics, since the second summer Olympics in 1900 and since the 1948 Winter Olympics. Italy also hosted the Winter Olympics again in 2006.
Education: - Italy has s statewide educational system. The educational system is divided into two parts: -
1. Primary stage and
2. Secondary stage.

In the primary stage the student have to study for five years and in the secondary stage the student have to study for eight years.
Religion: - Roman Catholicism is by for the most popular religion in the country. In Italy there are different types of communities and Muslim community. All religious faiths are provided equal freedom before the law by constitution. Italy was mostly pagan and it's people worshiped the Roman Gods, before the beginning of Christianity. Than after Christianity took place of paganism and it became the major as well as popular religion of Roman Empire and Italy.
In 1970, the North African immigrants arrived in Italy. They were the followers of Islam. So with their foot-steps, Islam also arrived in Italy. The Muslim population currently stands at 8,25,000. Around 30,000 Jews and 30,000 Buddhists live in Italy.
Art: - 1. Italian cinema and theatre: - The Italian film industry was born between 1903 and 1908 with three companies, the Roman Cines the Ambrosio of Turin and the Itala Firm. In a short time, these companies reached a fair producing quality and films were soon sold outside Italy too, During the second World War, the cinema was used as a propaganda Italian theatre can be teased back into Roman.
Architecture: - The famous Italian architectures are Roman & Palladian. The Romans adopted classical Greek architecture which were very different from Greek buildings.
Palladian architecture derived from the designs of the Italian architect Andrea Palladian.
Music: - Italy has many distinct types of Music depending upon its location.
