Andorra is a small, landlocked principality in southwestern Europe. It is situated in the eastern Pyremees Mountains and surrounded by France and Spain. Andora is recently very prosperous and wealthy county due to tourism and its status as a tax haven.
The name "Andorra" originally comes from a Navarrese word andurrial, which means shrub-covered land. Andorra la Vella is a capital as well as the largest city of Andorra.

Before the 11th century, Charlemagne granted a charter to the Andorran people in return for their fighting the Moors. After that the territory passed to the local count of Urgell and at last to the bishop of the diocese of Urgell. In the 11th century, a dispute occurs between the bishop and his northern French neighbor over Andorra. During the 12th century, the dispute was resolved by the signing of a parage, which provided that the sovereignty of Andorra should be shared between the French count of Foix and the bishop of La Sea d'Urgell, in Catalonia Spain.
Over the years the title passed to the kings of Navarre. After Henry of Navarre became the ruler Henry IV of France, he issued an edict that established the head of the French state and the Bishop of Urgell. During the 18th century, the French Empire seized Spanish Catalonia and divided it into four parts. Andorra was also saized and made part of the district of Puigeerda.
During the 19th century, Andorra was occupied by Andorra. On 12th of July, 1934 Boris Skossy reff issued a proclamation in Urgel, declaring himself Boris I, sovereign prince of Andorra, and declaring war on the bishop of Urgel. He was arrested by Spainsh authorities on 20th July and at last forced out from Spain. From 1936 to 1940, a French detachment was garrisoned in Andorra Francoist troops reached the Andorran border in the Spanish Civil War.
During Second World War, Andorra remained neutral and was an important smuggling route between Vichy France and Spain.
Andorra has existed outside the mainstream of European history, with few ties to countries other than France and Spain. In 1933, Andorra became a member of the United Nations.

Tourism is a main source of income of Andorra, which contributes about 80% of GDP. Approximately 9 million tourists visit annually in Andorra. Mostly tourists are attracted by Andorra's duty-free status and by its summer and winter resorts. Andorra gets advantage because the economies of adjoining France and Spain have been opened up, providing broader availability of goods and lower tariffs. Banking sector is also a source of Andorra's income, which also contributes in GDP.
Andorra's soil is not suitable for agriculture. It has only 2% of the land is arable, so agricultural production is limited and mostly food has to be imported. The principal livestock activity is domestic sheep rising. Manufacturing output consists mainly of cigarettes, cigars and furniture. Andorra is not a full member of European Union, but it has a special relationship with it, such as being treated as a EU member for trade in manufactured goods and as a non-EU member for agricultural products.
Currency: - Andorra lacks a currency of its own and uses the French franc and the Spanish pesetas, which have since been replaced by a single currency, the euro.
Natural resources: - Andorra's natural resources include hydropower, mineral water, timber, iron, ore and lead.
